Abstrakt:
The paper studies the the reflection of English as a lingua franca in basic education in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part describes the concept of English as a lingua franca, determines the roles of different sources of listening input with the stress on textbook audio recordings, summarizes previous research of teachers' attitudes to English as a lingua franca, and introduces documents defining objectives of basic education in the Czech Repulic.
The research part comprises a case study. Firsty, the reflection of English as a lingua franca is analysed in relevant documents. Secondly, textbook listening and pronunciation activities are evaluated. Lastly, teachers' attitudes to English as a lingua franca are elicited.
