dc.description.abstract-translated	The contemporary Czech state policy toward new religious movements (NRM) appears liberal. However, the paper shows the tendencies of the executive power to take control of them and of religions as such. Czech law is liberal compared with Greek, French, Austrian, or German one. But the new Act regulating the position of “Churches and Religious Societies” (No 3/2002) lies down strange, hard to fulfill requirements for registration. In addition to it, the Act concedes, so to say, second degree of registration, so called authorization for special rights only to long-established religious bodies. For NRM, it is uneasy to attain it as several inconspicuous articles make their position difficult. The Czech Helsinki Committee enunciated in its 2001 Human Rights Report that it is objectionable from the point of view of human rights. It is possible to say that public authorities wittingly or unwittingly pet the Christian Churches that are in deep crisis and they painfully seek their place in the contemporary society. They seem to expect a new alliance of Throne and Altar. At the same time, they meet NRM and any endeavor for alternative life styles with suspicion.	eng
