dc.description.abstract-translated |
The purpose of the present paper is to identify chosen characteristic features of Irish Republican Brotherhood and show them in the context of Irish mythology, specifically the narratives of the Irish warrior Finn MacCumhail and his war band, Fianna, these myths being inspiring for the founding members of IRB.
The text focuses on three characteristics of IRB,: its attitude to violence and terrorism, its rules and the initiation of new members, to illustrate the contradictory and disunited approaches within IRB itself. The final part deals with the prehistoric Fianna as reflected in Rolleston´s collections of Celtic myths. In the conclusion, an attempt is made to evaluate the meaning of IRB, which, however it proclaimed using physical force, brought the main fruit in the field of spirit. |
